Smoketown Family Wellness Center is a non-profit pediatric clinic that provides comprehensive, evidence-based medical care to children with support for the whole family. That support may mean offering encouragement and affirmation; other times, support means providing food or resources for emotional health needs.
We value building relationships with our families and providing time and space to build trust. We strive to meet our families where they are and address social needs that affect health and well-being.
We offer a variety of programming to benefit our families and the Smoketown community. Programs this year have included homework help in the afternoons, a Friday movie night on the lawn across from the clinic, drama classes offered by Commonwealth Theater, and a heart-to-heart series with conversations with a preventive cardiologist and a licensed clinical social worker as a mental health specialist.
We bill insurance companies for the medical care we provide and have a flat fee for those who don’t have insurance. Other services we provide are funded by donations and grants.
Though working at SFWC is the realization of a big dream for me, I have not landed in utopia. We struggle to get the word out about the uniqueness we provide; we need more patient volume; we have a high no-show rate for appointments; we have had our fair share of staffing challenges.
Our passion drives us to persevere, and we depend on donor support and grants to continue our mission.
