About the Festival
The Louisville Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival is based on the Boar’s Head festivals of medieval times that celebrated the triumph of good over evil. The Festival celebrates the miraculous meaning of Christmas through music, dining, drama, and dance. Professional musicians and performers from across the region join with over 200 volunteers in creating this gift to the city each year.

Over 130 celebrants, decked in ornate and period costumes, take the audience on a trip, traveling gradually backwards to the first Christmas. Each Festival is introduced by choral and instrumental prelude that features seasonal music. A small child dressed as a medieval Sprite opens the night’s performance by bearing a candle that symbolizes Christ as the light of the world.

Favorite seasonal carols are featured throughout the Festival and the audience is welcome to join in the singing of them. The Festival culminates with the full cast, choir, and congregation singing Gustav Holst’s “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence” and the carol “O Come all Ye Faithful,” accompanied by brass and organ, in adoration of the Christ Child.

In keeping with the spirit of giving, the church kindly requests that attendees bring canned goods to be shared with Highland Community Ministries.
